About Delivered by Design

Delivered by Design began in April 2004 with the birth of my niece, Patricia Ann. As a gift to her parents, I offered to design her birth announcement. I followed that up in May 2005 when her brother, Matthew David, was born. Initially, these were created with simple 4.25x5.5 prints on cardstock and mailed in invitation sized envelopes.

The designs evolved from there. In September 2004, my daughter, Amara Hope, was born and I set out to create the “perfect” birth announcement. In June 2006, my son, Dominic James was born, and I determined that he needed an announcement as “perfect” as hers and similar in appearance so that they could be displayed together. When I mailed out my children’s announcements, I had several people ask me where I purchased them. Some asked me if I’d be willing to design their announcements. I realized that my hobby could become something more, and with the prodding of my husband, Delivered by Design came into fruition.

Both parts of the name have double meaning. “Delivered” refers to the delivery of a new child, but also the delivery by mail of the announcements. “By Design” refers obviously to my design of the card, but also the design of our perfect children by God the Creator. Two Bible verses were significant to me in the conception of this name:

“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” James 1:17

I hope that my announcements show the perfection of your children, reflect your love for them, and also illustrate the perfect gift of our children from our Heavenly Father.

About the Designer

I graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Communication. During my time at Augie, I also took two years of Graphic Design related classes, thinking that I would pursue a career in advertising. I realized through internships and conversations that I preferred design as a hobby rather than a career.

Design has never been far from my heart. Since graduation in 1998, I’ve done some freelance web design, made many handmade cards for our personal Christmas greetings, birthdays, anniversaries, and the like, and continued my pursuit of the perfect creative outlet.

In June 2005, I was in browsing a scrapbooking website for baby book design ideas for my new daughter, and I discovered digital scrapbooking. It became the perfect outlet for me, and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t discovered it sooner. It was essentially what I had done in the announcement designs I had already created. Hundreds of digital scrapbook pages later, I decided to make a go at designing for profit. Thus, Delivered by Design was born.

About the Announcements

Delivered by Design announcements are available in 4x6 or 5x7 sizes (all include envelopes). The design options shown are all available for use with your photos. Though initially created for birth announcements, they can also be created as wedding announcements, invitations, birthday invitations, Christmas cards… the options are endless. Custom work may incur additional costs.

Photos are submitted by you. Please make sure that you take them at a high quality – Delivered by Design can’t be responsible for graininess if photos provided are not high quality. Professional photos can be used as long as the photographer has signed a release. Please also provide a phone number or email address so that we can confirm the release of the photos. Due to copyright laws, Delivered by Design will not work with professional photos unless these are provided and confirmed.

Cards can be purchased individually (minimum order of 25 cards), or you can opt to purchase the JPG file and print your own. For an additional fee, Delivered by Design will address and/or mail the cards for you.
